On The Mesa, a driftwood teepee overlooked Duxbury Reef, inspiring painter Ken Knutson with its innovative use of recycled materials. Bolinas was a hub for young people building unique homes from salvaged wood. Ken and his wife Sandra embraced this spirit by opening the town's first fine art gallery at 11 Wharf Road, showcasing local artists and becoming a cultural landmark. Ken’s notable work includes co-creating the "Voyager" tarot deck in 1984 with symbolist James Wanless, featuring Ken's collage art and gaining national acclaim.
